Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said on Tuesday that the recently signed agreement with Somaliland does not include resettling the population of the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to Israel's Channel 14, Saar stated that he does not rule out Somaliland's willingness to accept residents of Gaza who decide to leave the Palestinian enclave. However, Somaliland earlier officially denied that it had agreed to accept refugees from Gaza.
Israel's plans for the voluntary migration of Gazans, which were advanced last year, faced global backlash and accusations that Israel seeks to carry out ethnic cleansing of the enclave. However, United States President Donald Trump suggested last week that more than half of the population would leave Gaza "if given the opportunity."
