Her Persian excursion is no more.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s international affairs commissioner boneheadedly made plans to meet with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, sources confirmed to The Post.
The scheduled July 7 meeting – first reported by City Journal – between Commissioner Ana María Archila and Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, ultimately never happened, sources said.
US State Department officials intervened after they learned about Archila’s plans to meet an Iran government while America’s conflict with the Gulf nation is still ongoing, according to sources.
“She scheduled it without checking in with anybody,” one source said of the Tuesday meeting.
Archilla’s scheduled meeting would’ve unfolded after Iranian troops fired missiles at two commercial ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz – an action Monday in direct defiance of an interim peace agreement between the US and Iran.
President Trump on Wednesday declared the temporary cease-fire “over” as the two nations traded renewed strikes.
Mamdani condemned Trump’s “illegal war of aggression” when the president first directed strikes against Iran in February.
He didn’t know about Archilla’s planned meeting, the City Journal report stated.
But the canceled face-to-face in 2 United Nations Plaza is likely to having critics of the Israel-bashing Mamdani clucking, “Aya-told-you-so.”
“I mean, read the room people,” another source said. “I’m sure the president is thrilled.”
The office is tasked with cultivating relationships with other nations and cities, given the Big Apple’s role as an international hub and seat of the United Nations.
But Archilla – a former New York lieutenant governor candidate and longtime lefty activist with no experience in diplomacy – proved a controversial pick to head the office.
Insiders have told The Post they believe Archilla is woefully unqualified for the job.
Staffers have bemoaned Archilla hasn’t known what to do, forcing Mamdani’s administration to keep her predecessor, Aissata M.B. Camara, as a second commissioner – an unheard of situation, insiders said.
Camara still lists in her LinkedIn that she is the commissioner and took photos with dignitaries as recently as Wednesday.
The insiders, though said the admin had forced her out in the spring.
City Hall officials didn’t respond for comment.
