The French authorities opened an "attempted murder" investigation into a petrol bomb attack on security forces during the weekend protests, the prosecutor's office told AFP on Sunday.
"Explosive devices were thrown at around fifteen gendarmes as well as police officers," the prosecutor's office stated. The Paris police previously disclosed that hundreds of protesters attacked security forces with "projectiles," including a Molotov cocktail. No suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, the office added. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez previously denounced what he described as an "extraordinary" level of violence among some demonstrators, noting that security personnel had been burned in Molotov cocktail attacks. He also said that 565 people had been arrested nationwide on Saturday.
Protests have continued across France for a third consecutive weekend, prompting authorities to enforce a curfew in Paris between 11 pm and 6 am to contain the unrest.
