President Trump demanded that the Iranian government stop providing weapons to the Houthis in Yemen on Wednesday, declaring the group will be “annihilated.”
“Reports are coming in that while Iran has lessened its intensity on Military Equipment and General Support to the Houthis, they are still sending large levels of Supplies. Iran must stop the sending of these Supplies IMMEDIATELY. Let the Houthis fight it out themselves,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“Either way they lose, but this way they lose quickly. Tremendous damage has been inflicted upon the Houthi barbarians, and watch how it will get progressively worse — It’s not even a fair fight, and never will be. They will be completely annihilated,” he added.
His comments come less than a week after U.S. airstrikes took out some of the group’s top leaders. The U.S. said the strikes were made because of attacks by the group on ships in the areas.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the country will continue to punish Houthis for their attempts to attack U.S. ships and drones.
“This campaign is about freedom of navigation and restoring deterrence. The minute the Houthis say, ‘We’ll stop shooting at your ships, we’ll stop shooting at your drones,’ this campaign will end,” Hegseth said in an interview on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” a day after President Trump ordered the strikes.
“But until then, it will be unrelenting.”
The president said Iran will be held responsible for “every shot” fired by the Houthis and will be held “fully accountable” for their actions.
“They’re dictating every move, giving them the weapons, supplying them with money and highly sophisticated Military equipment, and even, so-called, ‘Intelligence,’” Trump wrote in a Monday Truth Social post.
“Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!”
The Houthis have promised to retaliate against the U.S. strikes and promised not to stop until the “blockade on Gaza” is lifted.
The Houthis are a Shia Muslim rebel group in Yemen.
