Japan slips, Australia gains amid holiday closures

Markets in Japan fell while Australia rose on Tuesday as some major exchanges, including those in South Korea, mainland China and Hong Kong, remained closed for Lunar New Year holidays.

Investors also awaited talks between US and Iranian officials later on Tuesday in Geneva. Trump called for a deal and confirmed he would indirectly participate in the talks.

Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.80% at 3:35 am CET, as the Australian S&P/ASX 200 added 0.39%. A minute later, the dollar traded 0.20% lower against the yen, going for ¥153.1825
