United States President Donald Trump's administration is considering a fresh batch of national security tariffs after the Supreme Court struck down many of Trump's tariffs last week, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the plans.
The new tariffs under consideration could encompass large-scale batteries, cast iron and iron fittings, plastic piping, industrial chemicals and power grid and telecom equipment, the report said. They would be imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, separate from the 15% global tariff Trump announced after the Supreme Court's ruling, which can be kept up for five months, and from other levies planned under the Trade Act's Section 301 for after.
Trump previously used Section 232 for tariffs on steel, aluminum, copper, cars, trucks and auto parts, which have not been affected by the Supreme Court's decision.
