Russia said to continue, expand Iran intel sharing: WSJ

Russia has stepped up its efforts to boost Iran's military capabilities amid Tehran's conflict with the United States and Israel, by providing satellite imagery and improved drone technology, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday. Moscow's help is reportedly helping Iran successfully strike US bases across the Middle East.

Sources familiar with the situation stated that Russia is seeking to prolong the war in the region in order to reap political and economic benefits. The drone technology shared with Iran includes new and improved components of the Shahed drones, which Russia is widely using against Ukraine, featuring better navigation and communications systems. The news comes after previous reports that Moscow has been providing Tehran with direct satellite imagery and drone advice from the early days of the war. Russian aid is believed to have helped Iran strike valuable US assets in the Gulf countries and Kuwait, such as early radar warning systems.

The Kremlin did not comment on the report. However, the Iranian foreign minister had previously said Russia was helping "in many different directions."
