Three Military Humvees, Machine Gun Mounts, Stolen Outside Of Los Angeles

About 30 minutes south of Los Angeles, local media has reported that police are searching for criminals who stole three Humvees—one of which was armored—machine gun mounts, and a whole bunch of military-grade gear from the Army Reserve Center in Tustin.

KTLA 5 reported that the Tustin Police Department is investigating the break-in at the Army Reserve Center in Tustin on Wednesday night, between 8 pm and 11:30 pm.

"Multiple storage lockers were discovered with locks removed and missing gear. An attempt was made to cut a lock to uniform storage; however, it was unsuccessful," TPD wrote in a report, adding, "A fence was cut to gain access to a military vehicle parking lot where three Humvees were stolen. The suspects left the area at an unknown time."

The following was confirmed missing:

3 Humvees (1 armored) with the admin numbers listed below painted on the hood:

  • Armored Humvee Model: M1151A1
  • ADMIN: HHC-06
  • Cloth Doors Humvee Model: M1097
  • ADMIN: HQ-61
  • Cloth Doors Humvee Model: M1097
  • ADMIN: HQ-81

8 machine gun vehicle mounts

7 free-standing machine gun tripods

Medical equipment

40 pairs of binoculars

18 bayonets

The good news is that no machine guns or ammunition were stolen. This comes as National Guard troops have been deployed an hour north to the fire-ravaged Palisades area, where criminal gangs have been looting mansions.

Bird Flu Cases Detected Across Delmarva Poultry Industry

On Friday, the Maryland Department of Agriculture revealed that a highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI) case was detected at a commercial broiler chicken operation in Caroline County

Caroline County, on Maryland's Eastern Shore, just south of Washington, DC, is situated in the Delmarva poultry industry, one of the largest chicken operations in the US. It's a multi-billion dollar chicken industry that covers commercial broilers in Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.

"This marks the first case of H5N1 at a Maryland commercial poultry operation since 2023 and the third commercial operation in the Delmarva region in the last 30 days when two Kent County, DE returned positive results," Maryland Department of Agriculture wrote in a press release.

On X, the Maryland Farm Bureau posted a biosecurity warning to the Delmarva poultry industry, showing areas where HPAI has already been confirmed.

The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service website, featuring the "Wild Bird Avian Influenza Surveillance" platform, shows that bird flu has become a nationwide headache for commercial broiler operations over the past few years.

The virus seriously threatens poultry operations across the Delmarva area and may force farms to begin culling flocks, devastating farmers' livelihoods and the industry.

Consumers are already seeing the negative effects of farms culling flocks as the nation's egg production has fallen, sending egg prices through the roof.

What a mess. This underscores just how fragile the nation's food supply chain really is. People need to get back to basics and secure their local food sources, whether tapping local farms or, building a chicken coop, buying a cow, or planting a garden. Better to be safe than deal with out-of-control grocery bills, or worse, no food on store shelves, like folks are finding out with eggs

Also, the bird flu virus appears to have mutated in the first severe human case. The World Health Organization stated last week that the risk from H5N1 avian influenza remains low.

Meanwhile, in the new documentary "Thank You, Dr. Fauci" ...

... bird flu will likely be the next pandemic.

Lebanon to work with Syria to strengthen borders

Lebanon and Syria will work together to secure their land borders, as well as to delineate both land and sea borders, Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said on Saturday in Damascus.

In the first trip by a Lebanese prime minister to neighbouring Syria in 15 years, Mikati addressed a joint news conference in Damscus with Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Al-Sharaa said they had discussed issues including smuggling between the two countries, border challenges, and Syrian deposits in Lebanese banks.

Both sides agreed to establish committees to address these matters and provide support.

Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun, said following his election on Thursday that there was a historic opportunity for "serious and equitable dialogue" with Syria.

For much of the Assad family's five decades in power, Syria held significant influence over Lebanon, maintaining a military presence there for 29 years until 2005 in the face of widespread opposition from many Lebanese.

Trump's Mideast envoy to meet Netanyahu on Saturday, Israeli official says

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, an Israeli official said, amid efforts to secure a hostage deal and ceasefire in Gaza.

A second Israeli official said some progress had been made in the indirect talks between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas, mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States, to reach a deal in Gaza.

The mediators are making new efforts to reach a deal to halt the fighting in the enclave and free the remaining Israeli hostages held there before Trump takes office on Jan. 20.

On Saturday, the Palestinian civil emergency service said eight people were killed, including two women and two children, in an Israeli airstrike on a former school sheltering displaced families in Jabalia, in the northern Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military said the strike had targeted Hamas militants who were operating at the school and that it had taken measures to reduce the risk of harm to civilians.

Israel launched its assault on Gaza after Hamas fighters stormed across its borders in October 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

Since then, more than 46,000 people have been killed in Gaza, according to Palestinian health officials, with much of the enclave laid to waste and gripped by a humanitarian crisis, with most of its population displaced.

Denmark sent Trump team private messages on Greenland, Axios reports

Denmark sent private messages to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's team expressing willingness to discuss boosting security in Greenland or increasing the U.S. military presence there without claiming the island, Axios reported on Saturday, citing two sources.

Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20, has described U.S. control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory, as an "absolute necessity". He did not dismiss the potential use of military or economic means, including tariffs against Denmark.

Axios said that the Danish government wanted to convince Trump that his security concerns could be addressed without claiming Greenland.

A spokesperson for the Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment on the Axios report.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said earlier this week that she had asked for a meeting with Trump, but did not expect it to happen before his inauguration. Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede too said he was ready to speak with Trump but urged respect for the island's independence aspirations.

Denmark has previously said that Greenland is not for sale.

TikTok warns of broader consequences if US Supreme Court allows ban

The lawyer for TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance offered a warning during Supreme Court arguments over a law that would compel the sale of the short-video app or ban it in the United States: If Congress could do this to TikTok, it could come after other companies, too.

The law, which was the subject of arguments before the nine justices on Friday, sets a Jan. 19 deadline for ByteDance to sell the popular social media platform or face a ban on national security grounds. The companies have sought, at the very least, a delay in implementation of the law, which they say violates the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment protection against government abridgment of free speech.

Noel Francisco, representing TikTok and ByteDance, argued that Supreme Court endorsement of this law could enable statutes targeting other companies on similar grounds.

"AMC movie theaters used to be owned by a Chinese company. Under this theory, Congress could order AMC movie theaters to censor any movies that Congress doesn't like or promote any movies that Congress wanted," Francisco told the justices.

The justices signaled through their questions during the arguments that they were inclined to uphold the law, although some expressed serious concerns about its First Amendment implications.

TikTok is a platform used by about 170 million people in the United States, roughly half the country's population. Congress passed the measure last year with overwhelming bipartisan support, as lawmakers cited the risk of the Chinese government exploiting TikTok to spy on Americans and carry out covert influence operations.

Jeffrey Fisher, the lawyer representing TikTok content creators who also have challenged the law, noted during the Supreme Court arguments that Congress with this measure was focusing on TikTok and not major Chinese online retailers including Temu.

"Would a Congress (that is) really worried about these very dramatic risks leave out an e-commerce site like Temu that has 70 million Americans using it?" Fisher asked. "It's very curious why you just single out TikTok alone and not other companies with tens of millions of people having their own data taken, you know, in the process of engaging with those websites and equally, if not more, available to Chinese control."

Democratic President Joe Biden signed the measure into law and his administration is defending it in this case. The deadline for divestiture is just one day before Republican Donald Trump, who opposes the ban, takes office as Biden's successor.

'FOREIGN ADVERSARIES'

Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, arguing for the Biden administration in defending the law, said it was crucial that it take effect on Jan. 19 as scheduled in order to force ByteDance to act on divestiture.

"Foreign adversaries do not willingly give up their control over this mass communications channel in the United States," Prelogar said.

"When push comes to shove, and these restrictions take effect, I think it will fundamentally change the landscape with respect to what ByteDance is willing to consider. And it might be just the jolt that Congress expected the company would need to actually move forward with the divestiture process," Prelogar said.

If the ban takes affect on Jan. 19, Apple and Alphabet's Google would no longer be able to offer TikTok for downloads for new users but existing users could still access the app. The U.S. government and TikTok agree that app would degrade and eventually become unusable over time because companies would not be able to offer supporting services.

The Supreme Court also debated whether the possibility of TikTok being used for covert influence campaigns or propaganda purposes by China justified the banning it.

"Look, everybody manipulates content," Francisco told the court. "There are lots of people who think CNN, Fox News, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times are manipulating their content. That is core protected speech."

Trump on Dec. 27 urged the court to put a hold on the Jan. 19 deadline to give his incoming administration "the opportunity to pursue a political resolution of the questions at issue in the case."

Under the law, the U.S. president has the power to extend the Jan. 19 deadline for 90 days, but under circumstances that do not appear to apply to the current situation in which ByteDance has made no apparent effort to sell TikTok's U.S. assets. The law mandates that the president certify that significant progress has been made toward a sale, with binding legal agreements.

Regardless, Trump does not become president until after the deadline - though Francisco said "we might be in a different world" once Trump is back in the White House.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh asked Prelogar whether the president could "say that we're not going to enforce this law?"

"I think as a general matter, of course the president has enforcement discretion," Prelogar said.

"Again, that's one of the reasons why I think it makes perfect sense to issue a preliminary injunction here and simply buy everybody a little breathing space," Francisco said.

Neuralink Brain Chip Implanted In 3rd Patient, Elon Musk Says "Working Well"

Neuralink Corp.'s brain-computer device has been implanted in a third patient and the company has plans for about 20 to 30 more implants in 2025, founder Elon Musk said.

"We've got now three humans with Neuralinks implanted and they're all working well," Musk said during an event in Las Vegas this week that was streamed on X, his social media service.

Neuralink is one of a growing group of startups developing brain implants that can help treat conditions such as paralysis and ALS. They are experimental procedures that usually require opening up the skull to place electrodes in the brain tissue. A year ago, Neuralink said it had implanted its device in its initial patient, Noland Arbaugh.

The company currently has two US studies for its devices registered with the Food and Drug Administration. The Prime Study, designed for an estimated five patients, allows paralyzed patients to control external devices such as computers or smartphones with their minds. A second study, Convoy, is designed for three patients, and allows them to control devices such as assistive robotic arms.
