Moderna Gets $1.74 Billion Deal to Supply U.S. with Covid-19 Boosters Targeting BA.4, BA.5

Moderna Inc. said Friday that it has reached a deal with the U.S. government to supply 66 million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine booster that targets the latest dominant subvariant of the virus.

The agreement awards Moderna up to $1.74 billion for the doses, and includes options for the government to purchase as many as 234 million additional doses.

The bivalent booster shots are being developed to protect against the highly contagious BA.4 and BA.5 variants of the virus, Moderna said.

"We are pleased to extend our successful collaboration with the U.S. government," Chief Executive Stéphane Bancel said.

Moderna shares were up 3.6% to $163.71 in premarket trading.
