The national baby formula shortage is not abating, with nearly one-third of brands out of stock, according to a report.
Numbers released Friday for the week ending July 24 showed a 30% out-of-stock rate, which was down slightly from 32% percent the week earlier, the Daily Mail reported.
When the shortage dominated headlines in late May, 23.7% of brands were reported out of stock.
The typical out-of-stock range before the COVID-19 pandemic hovered between 5% and 7%.
The Biden administration has been bringing in baby formula from abroad as part of Operation Fly Formula with the number of imported 8-ounce bottle equivalents reaching some 61 million as of July 24.
But one Virginia family said they are still struggling to find the specialty formula needed for their 2-year-old daughter.
“Our situation has not changed at all,” mom Jillian Arroyo told a local television station. “We are still feeding our child expired formula because that is what we have.”
The shortage, which began during the pandemic, worsened after manufacturer Abbott shuttered a Michigan plant because of potentially contaminated formula. The plant reopened in June, only to be shuttered by flooding and open again in July.
