AEP to Heed Wants of State Leaders, Putting Climate Aim in Flux
American Electric Power (AEP) is adjusting its energy and economic development goals to align with state regulators' preferences, potentially leading to a change in its 2045 net-zero carbon target, according to CEO Bill Fehrman. Fehrman believes it is the responsibility of the states to determine their own policies, and AEP will meet those policies accordingly. The utility company aims to improve relationships with regulators, enhance reliability, and reduce customer bills by adopting a bottom-up approach that involves understanding state preferences and executing accordingly. AEP operates in 11 states and supplies electricity to nearly 5.5 million customers.
