Trump says Mexico’s president has ‘agreed to stop’ migrants crossing into US through her country

President-elect Donald Trump said Wednesday that he has received assurances from Mexico’s new president that she will “stop migration” though her country and into the US.

“Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border,” he added.

Trump, 78, noted that he and Sheinbaum Pardo also discussed illegal drugs coming into the US from south of the border during their “very productive conversation.”

“We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs,” he wrote.

“It was a very productive conversation!”

In a social media post, she confirmed that she informed Trump that migrant caravans racing to the US border “are being taken care of.”

“I had an excellent conversation with President Donald Trump,” Sheinbaum Pardo wrote on X.

“We discussed Mexico’s strategy on the migration phenomenon and I shared that caravans are not arriving at the northern border because they are being taken care of in Mexico.

“We also discussed strengthening collaboration on security issues within the framework of our sovereignty and the campaign we are carrying out in the country to prevent the consumption of fentanyl,” she added.

Trump announced earlier this week that he planned to slap a 25% tariff on Mexican imports to get the country to crack down on illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

Canada and China would also be hit with 25% and 10% tariffs, respectively, as part of the executive order, Trump said.

In a separate Truth Social post, Trump indicated that Sheinbaum’s promise to stop migrants from entering the US would be “effective immediately.”

“Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately,” the 45th president said.

“THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!”

Trump has vowed to enact the largest deportation in history, starting when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

Earlier this month, the president-elect confirmed that he would declare a “national emergency” to deport illegal migrants with the help of “military assets” once he steps back into office.

Trump is also expected to reimpose several measures aimed at curbing illegal border-crossings, such as the “Remain in Mexico” policy which during the 45th president’s first term required asylum seekers to wait for their immigration hearings south of the border.

He also announced plans Wednesday for “a large scale United States Advertising Campaign” focused on the negative effects of fentanyl.

“Millions of lives being so needlessly destroyed,” Trump said of the illicit drug.

“By the time the Campaign is over, everyone will know how really bad the horror of this Drug is.”

The Trump-Vance transition team did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
