Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Friday that he expects that his country's trade negotiations with the United States will continue "at some point."
"We're taking a pause. Well, they [the US] are taking a pause, I'm ready," Carney said at the Canadian Club Toronto. "I think it is in our interest, obviously, but there are certain areas where it's very much in the US interest to adjust the arrangements right now. They'll make their own judgments on that, and we'll see. We're ready. I expect it to come back at some point," he added.
US President Donald Trump previously stated that he does not plan to restart tariff talks with Canada, after pausing them over advertisements featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about the US tariffs. Carney later said that he privately apologized to the US president over the ad.
