'Amazon unveils cost-effective AI chip Trainium3'

Amazon Web Services introduced on Tuesday its in-house-built Trainium3 AI chip, saying it offered cost-effective AI infrastructure "while reducing environmental impact across our data centers."

"Trainium3 UltraServers deliver high performance for AI workloads with up to 4.4x more compute performance, 4x greater energy efficiency, and almost 4x more memory bandwidth than Trainium2 UltraServers," the company said in a press release. Moreover, an extra 18 fully managed open weight models were added to Amazon Bedrock from Google, Moonshot AI, MiniMax AI, Mistral AI, Nvidia, OpenAI, and Qwen, including the new Mistral Large 3 and Ministral 3 3B, 8B, and 14B models.

AWS, which will make the technology available to its cloud computing clients, said it will embrace key Nvidia technology in future generations of its artificial intelligence computing chips as the business steps up efforts to compete directly with AI-giants Nvidia, OpenAI and Google.
