Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban rejected the possibility of his country leaving the European Union and NATO, in an interview with M1 TV on Wednesday.
"Hungary is strong enough to remain aloof from the war and, to do so, to go against Brussels, and if necessary, against the entire Western world," he explained. On the other hand, Orban said Budapest seeks to remain a part of the "Western alliance system," while stressing the need for the EU's and NATO's decisions to be made based on "common sense."
Orban has been a vocal critic of the EU's handling of the war in Ukraine, as well as its social and immigration policies. At the same time, he continues to pursue close relations with United States President Donald Trump.
