'Hamas: US talks must end Israel's ceasefire breaches'

Hamas political bureau member Basem Naim (pictured) told AFP on Friday that today's talks between US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Turkish, Egyptian, and Qatari senior officials in Florida should aim at ending Israel's violations of the ceasefire in Gaza.

"Our people expect these talks to result in an agreement to put an end to ongoing Israeli lawlessness, halt all violations and compel the occupation to abide by the Sharm el-Sheikh [ceasefire] agreement," the official said.

Furthermore, Naim insisted that these talks should also address the ways of implementing the remaining elements of US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan and ensuring that the implementation "achieves sustainable stability, launches a comprehensive reconstruction process and paves the way for a political track enabling Palestinians to govern themselves, culminating in a fully sovereign and independent state."
