Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reiterated on Wednesday her government's support for Ukraine, insisting that "we do not intend to abandon Ukraine in the most delicate phase in recent years." However, she also maintained that Italy will not take part in a potential peacekeeping force in Ukraine.
Meloni also criticized Russia's lack of "willingness to contribute to the negotiation process in a fair, credible, and constructive manner." She acknowledged that the issue of Ukrainian territories is "the most difficult obstacle to overcome" and that it must be settled between Ukraine and Russia. She added that Italy remains committed to maintaining economic pressure on Russia and that financial support for Ukraine must depend on Kiev's respect for the European Union's rule of law principles.
