US President Donald Trump issued new sanctions on three nephews of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a businessman close to his government and six companies moving oil, Axios reported on Thursday after seeing a statement by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The Treasury chief insisted that Maduro's circle is "flooding" the US with drugs, framing the move as part of the administration's broader pressure campaign.
The sanctions follow the US seizure of a vessel carrying Venezuelan crude that was on the Treasury Department's Specially Designated Nationals list. Those targeted include two of the so-called "narco nephews," previously convicted in the US, and Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, linked to PDVSA. A Panamanian oil businessman was also designated. The six sanctioned shipping firms manage vessels tied to recent Venezuelan oil movements. The Treasury page is not showing the official release yet.
