US House passes $900 billion defense measure

The United States House of Representatives approved a $900 billion defense policy package on Wednesday in a 312-112 vote, advancing the measure to the Senate.

The bill, titled the National Defense Authorization Act, sets military spending levels and outlines priorities for the US Defense Department. It repeals sanctions tied to Syria's Assad government, allocates $400 million for Ukraine in both 2026 and 2027 and funds Taiwan's security cooperation at $1 billion. It also directs the Pentagon to launch a joint drone program with Taiwan and blocks reductions of US forces in Europe below 76,000 for more than 45 days.

The legislation now awaits Senate action before moving to President Donald Trump for signature.
