Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney said the government is pursuing "significant" new joint-venture investments with Chinese companies to strengthen domestic electric vehicle production.
He explained that Canada's decision to permit just under 50,000 Chinese-made EVs to enter the market next year is aimed at providing "more affordable, energy-efficient options for Canadians." Carney explained that the plan is designed to establish Canada as a "leader" for electric vehicle manufacturing.
Carney's remarks come days after he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a state visit to China.
