Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum pledged on Friday to find a way to deliver aid to Cuba despite a new US decree imposing tariffs on countries supplying oil to the island. She stated she will first seek clarity from the US State Department on the decree's exact scope.
She emphasized acting in solidarity while "not jeopardizing Mexico," warning the tariffs could cause a severe humanitarian crisis in Cuba.
The vow follows Mexico's rise as Cuba's top crude supplier after US pressure on Venezuela. The move comes as some US lawmakers suggest using the current USMCA trade talks to pressure Mexico to halt shipments.
