France is unlikely to respond favorably to United States President Donald Trump's invitation to join the Gaza Board of Peace, a source close to French President Emmanuel Macron told AFP on Monday.
According to the source, the board's charter goes "beyond the sole framework of Gaza," raising many concerns, "particularly regarding respect for the principles and structure of the United Nations, which under no circumstances can be called into question."
In addition, the same source said that France "remains fully committed to a ceasefire in Gaza and to a credible political horizon for Palestinians and Israelis." Meanwhile, the French Foreign Ministry issued a statement, reiterating Paris' commitment to the UN, and stressing that it was reviewing the proposed legal framework of the Gaza Board of Peace with its partners.
