United States President Donald Trump invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or a representative of his choice to join the US-led Gaza Board of Peace, intended to oversee the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, Netanyahu's office told The Times of Israel on Monday. Meanwhile, an Israeli official told CNN that Israel has not yet officially replied to the invitation.
Media reports earlier suggested that tensions flared between Netanyahu and the US following the announcement of the list of board members, prompting the Israeli prime minister to issue a statement claiming that the move "was not coordinated with Israel and runs counter to its policy."
Many world leaders were previously invited to take part in the board, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
