The United States Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced a new batch of sanctions on Thursday against 11 Iranian nationals and 13 entities, claiming they spearheaded the crackdown on protesters and funneled the proceeds from oil sales through foreign markets.
"[US] President [Donald] Trump stands with the people of Iran and has ordered Treasury to sanction members of the regime," US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a video message, adding that the Iranian regime uses the sanctioned individuals and entities to "evade sanctions on Iranian oil and divert proceeds from its energy sales away from the rightful owners, the Iranian people."
One of the sanctioned individuals was Iranian security chief Ali Larijani, who previously accused Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being the "main killers of the Iranian people."
