Chinese International Trade Representative Li Chenggang said on Monday that Chinese trade negotiators reached "preliminary consensus" with the United States following a new round of negotiations in Paris earlier today. He said the discussion was "in-depth, candid and constructive" and that the representatives agreed that "stable bilateral economic, trade relations are beneficial to both countries and the world."
Li said China and the US also agreed to maintain the stability of tariff levels while discussing the possibility of extending tariff suspensions. He added that the Chinese delegation protested the US investigation under Section 301 of the Trade Act, repeating that Beijing opposes unilateral probes.
