United States President Donald Trump asked for China's help in unblocking maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that his trip to China at the end of March could be delayed if the situation in the Middle East is not resolved.
"I think China should help too because China gets 90 per cent of its oil from the Straits," the US leader told the Financial Times. "We’d like to know before that. It’s a long time," he went on, casting doubt on the meeting with his Chinese colleague Xi Jinping, set to take place in two weeks. Trump also emphasized that China and Europe are both dependent on the flow of oil from the Middle East, although Washington initiated strikes against Iran together with Israel, resulting in a regional conflict.
He did not provide an alternative date for his summit with X, in case their meeting is delayed.
