British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to reveal a new defense investment package worth about £18 billion over the next four years to strengthen the United Kingdom's military capabilities and prepare the country for future conflict, The i Paper reported on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The Defence Investment Plan is expected to fund new contracts for defense companies and support military upgrades, including improvements to RAF Typhoon jets and purchases of F-35A fighter aircraft.
Earlier this month, The Times reported that Prime Minister Starmer had been presented with two defense spending options worth £12 billion and £18 billion, with the higher figure bringing UK defense spending closer to 3% of GDP. The i Paper added that Starmer accelerated the plan ahead of the Makerfield by-election on June 18, amid Russia-related security concerns and Middle East conflict.
