NPR Alito retirement report retracted

An earlier article published today on our platform stated that United States Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was retiring, citing a report from NPR.

Minutes after publication, NPR said the story had been "taken down" and that it had been "published in error," without providing further details.

The original NPR story detailed that the 76-year-old was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2006 during the George W. Bush administration. As one of the court's conservative majority, Alito has voted in favor of several impactful opinions, including striking down the landmark abortion ruling in Roe v. Wade.

Justice Alito's retirement has not been confirmed by the Supreme Court.
