Stranded Starliner astronaut’s teen daughter blames ‘negligence’ for dad’s long absence

The 16-year-old daughter of stranded Starliner astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore said she’s frustrated her dad has been stuck on the International Space Station since June — and blamed “negligence” and “a lot of politics.”

Daryn Wilmore took to TikTok to express how she longs to hug her father again and bemoan all the family moments he has missed during the orbital mishap — which SpaceX founder Elon Musk blames on the Biden administration’s reluctance to pull the trigger on a rescue.

“He’s missed out on a lot,” she said in the Feb. 6 post. “It’s less the fact that he’s up there sometimes; it’s more the fact of why. There’s a lot of politics, there’s a lot of things that I’m not at liberty say in that I don’t know fully about. But there’s been issues, there’s been negligence.

“It’s just been issue after issue after issue,” the teen charged.

Musk said last year that he was ready to launch a SpaceX rocket to bring Barry “Butch” Wilmore and fellow castaway Sunita Williams home after their Boeing Starliner capsule malfunctioned — but that officials in the Biden administration put the brakes on the plan.

In a press conference from the space station this week, Wilmore said he agreed.

“I can only say that Mr. Musk, what he says, is absolutely factual,” he said. “I believe him.”

The “Lost in Space” saga began when the Crew Dragon team launched on June 5 for what was intended to be in space for just over a week — until their return craft was plagued by propulsion problems and propellant leaks that would require months of analysis.

NASA hoped to bring them home last month until another delay was reported.

Now they’re expected to come back to Earth later this month.

Although she’s frustrated her father hasn’t come home yet, Daryn Wilmore is not depressed over his space station dilemma.

She said her family gets to speak to the stranded space traveler almost daily and said he’s keeping busy.

“Recently we found out he will most likely be coming back in mid-March, which is so exciting, and I miss him so much, and I can only wait to hug his neck and see my sister graduate high school and see the show I’m in right now,” the teen said.

“But, fingers crossed, things could always change and especially with this whole thing. We’ve had so many changes,” she added.

“He’s just been bummed, but he’s fine. My dad has always been resilient.”

Trump envoys meeting with Ukraine officials next week in Saudi Arabia, seeking ‘an initial cease-fire’

President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff revealed plans Thursday for a summit meeting next week with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia — saying the parties would discuss a possible cease-fire with Russia.

“We’re now in discussions to coordinate a meeting with the Ukrainians… It will be [in] Saudi Arabia. And I think the idea is to get down a framework for a peace agreement and an initial cease-fire as well,” Witkoff told reporters on the White House driveway.

The meeting will attempt to restore US-Ukrainian dialogue after the Trump administration moved to halt the flow of weapons and intelligence to Kyiv in response to an explosive Oval Office meeting Friday featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky, who is not expected to attend the Saudi Arabia meeting, said Friday that he opposes a temporary cease-fire, citing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s prior deal-breaking.

“We can’t just speak about cease-fire and speak and speak. It will not work,” Zelensky said at that meeting, fueling Trump’s rage.

Trump told him: “Look, if you could get a cease-fire right now, I tell you you’d take it, so the bullets stop flying and your men stop getting killed.”

The clash erupted over Zelensky’s demand for further US security guarantees, which Trump argued he had already effectively granted via a framework pact to give America a stake in the country’s rare earth elements.

Zelensky has expressed regret for the tumultuous meeting and a willingness to sign the mining agreement — though Trump has accused him of being disrespectful and said Monday his counterpart “won’t be around very long” if he won’t make a peace deal.

Trump’s envoy to Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, on Thursday said he was aware of no US talks with Ukrainian opposition figures about potentially toppling Zelensky, saying he “would find it really hard to believe right now” — denying a Politico report about recent alleged contacts.

Kellogg also said Thursday that Ukrainians forced the US’s hand in cutting off arms and “brought it on themselves.”

Trump has scoffed at the notion of Ukraine recouping territory that’s currently occupied by Russia and vented that he views Zelensky as ungrateful for hundreds of billions in American war aid over the past three years.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron visited the White House last week and discussed a plan to deploy peacekeeping forces to Ukraine following a cessation of fighting, with the NATO members’ troops intended to give further implicit protections.
