New York City will finally begin reopening from its months-long coronavirus lockdown on June 8, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday.
Cuomo announced the city would enter phase one at a joint press
conference, via video feed, with Mayor Bill de Blasio at LaPenta School
of Business in New Rochelle on Friday.
“We are on track to open June 8. It’s going to be different. It is reopening to a new normal. It’s a safer normal,” Cuomo said.
“People will be wearing masks. It’s just a new way of interacting
which is what we have to do. It is that simple but that hard,” Cuomo
said.
On that Monday, about 400,000 workers in the city’s construction,
wholesale, manufacturing and retail curbside industries will return to
their jobs, Cuomo said.
