IAEA: Process to restore Zaporizhzhia power supply started

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi announced on Thursday the start of a process that will help restore the external power supply at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), after "intensive consultations" with both Russia and Ukraine.

"While it will still take some time before the grid connection of the ZNPP has been restored, the two sides have engaged with us in a constructive way to achieve this important objective for the sake of nuclear safety and security. No one stands to gain from a further deterioration in this regard," Grossi stated.

Additionally, the IAEA director general said that off-site power will be established through the Dniprovska and Ferosplavna-1 power lines. The nuclear facility was cut off from the power grid back in September, following Russian drone attacks.
