The United States Department of Energy announced on Friday that it will be investing up to $100 million "to refurbish and modernize" the country's existing coal power plants.
"For years, the Biden and Obama administrations relentlessly targeted America’s coal industry and workers, resulting in the closure of reliable power plants and higher electricity costs. Thankfully, President [Donald] Trump has ended the war on American coal and is restoring common sense energy policies that put Americans first," US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in a statement.
Back in September, the department unveiled that $625 million in funds would be used for the expansion and reinvigoration of the US' coal industry.
