The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Dec. 1 that would extend the CMS waiver to provide acute hospital care at home for five years.
The Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act would continue the waiver, which is currently set to expire Jan. 30, until Sept. 30, 2030. The measure has drawn the support of the American Hospital Association and 52 health systems.
Hospital-at-home care, which allows patients to receive inpatient-level care in their homes through in-person and virtual visits with clinicians, largely went on hold when the waiver lapsed during the recent 43-day government shutdown.
