Houthi movement leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi warned on Sunday that any Israeli military presence in the breakaway state of Somaliland will be considered a "legitimate target" for the group's armed forces.
Potential Israeli military involvement in Somaliland "constitutes aggression against Somalia and Yemen, and a threat to the security of the region," he said.
Last week, Israel officially recognized Somaliland as a sovereign nation, becoming the first country to do so. Several Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, condemned the move. In addition, the African Union also rejected the recognition, stating it risks destabilizing the continent.
