United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters at Davos, Switzerland, on Monday that US President Donald Trump is "looking at Greenland as a strategic asset," stressing that Washington would not "outsource" its "hemispheric security to anyone else."
Answering a question whether he is concerned about a potential European retaliation to US actions regarding Greenland, Bessent stated he thinks it "would be very unwise." Furthermore, he added that "everyone should take the president at his word."
Bessent dismissed the idea that Trump's insistence on securing ownership of the Arctic island had anything to do with not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, calling it a "complete canard."
