French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu and his government will invoke Article 49.3 of the country's Constitution on Monday, according to BFMTV. This will allow them to pass the spending budget without having to hold a parliamentary vote.
Back when he was elected prime minister, Lecornu promised not to use the measure, hoping that the lawmakers would come to an agreement. At the end of 2025, the French parliament failed to pass the budget, with discussions continuing in January of 2026. Nonetheless, the impasse seemingly remained.
The media outlet mentioned that while Lecornu was considering the possible use of executive orders to help with the adoption of the budget, in the end, he opted to use special constitutional powers.
