Sheinbaum: US seeks higher USMCA regional content

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Thursday she had a new call with US President Donald Trump, describing it as "productive and cordial," lasting 40 minutes. Sheinbaum confirmed Trump invited her again to the United States, though no date was set.

The discussion focused on the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade deal, part of ongoing bilateral talks after the US suggested the pact may lack real advantage and could be withdrawn from this year.

Sheinbaum stated there is "nothing concrete" yet, but talks are progressing well. The US asked to increase regional content requirements, not just in autos, while Mexico pushed to keep the agreement trilateral. Critical minerals, though not discussed in this call, remain a key topic between the nations.
