Trump sees China's market opening

United States President Donald Trump that China is likely to expand access for American goods as the phase one trade agreement reaches its sixth anniversary this week.

Pressed about whether China would open its markets to US goods, Trump said, "Yeah, I think so. I think it's gonna happen." Asked if the US could return to the framework, Trump replied, "Yeah we can. We're doing very well with China. I have a great relationship with President Xi [Jinping]. We're doing really well. We're making a lot of money with China."

His remarks came as Trump's administration announced tariffs on Chinese imports, with both governments later agreeing to suspend new duties and reduce some rates.
