US grants 1-month waiver for Iranian oil at sea

The United States Treasury Department lifted sanctions on the delivery and sale of Iranian oil loaded on vessels as of March 20, for a period of 30 days. The announcement comes amid global oil supply disruptions due to Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the easing of restrictions applies to "crude oil or petroleum products of Iranian origin" and will remain in effect until April 19.

On Thursday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated Washington could remove sanctions on Iranian oil exports, which he estimated at around 140 million barrels.
