United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that he spoke with Omani Ambassador to the US Talal Alrahbi, who assured him that there are no plans for tolls in the Strait of Hormuz.
"As he said, our countries have had 200 years of good relations. He wants to have another 200 more, and I told him that this was a no-starter. And he didn't want to risk either the Omani individuals or the Omani financial institutions getting sanctioned," Bessent told reporters at a press briefing.
The US secretary's comments came after US President Donald Trump threatened to "blow [Oman] up" if it does not "behave." Meanwhile, Bessent previously said that the US will sanction any actors involved "directly or indirectly" in tolling the critical Middle Eastern waterway.
