FTC sends TIDA compliance letters to US tech firms

US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Andrew Ferguson (pictured) announced on Monday that he sent letters today to more than a dozen prominent technology companies reminding them that they must comply with the Take It Down Act (TIDA) by May 19.

Amazon, Alphabet, Apple, Automattic, Bumble, Discord, Match Group, Meta, Microsoft, Pinterest, Reddit, SmugMug, Snapchat, TikTok, and X were among the major firms that received the letters. The missives outline the legal criteria and definitions, as well as the consequences of breaking the law.

According to TIDA, covered platforms must set up a procedure that enables victims, including minors, to ask that private images or videos shared without their permission be taken down.
