United States Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer told ABC News on Sunday that US President Donald Trump did not ask his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to help with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during his state visit to the Asian country.
"When the president went in, he did not go in asking them to take action in the Straits of Hormuz. He was very focused on making sure that they didn't provide material support to Iran. That's a commitment he obtained and confirmed," Greer stated, confirming Trump's comments about Beijing promising not to send military equipment to Tehran. He also stressed that Washington is not looking for "joint military operations with the Chinese" but is seeking to make sure "that they're not getting in the way of anything we're doing."
The US trade representative added that Chinese officials expressed "a clear interest" in the Strait of Hormuz being reopened.
