IRGC puts missile forces on alert, seeks Khamenei approval to strike Israel

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have put their missile units on full alert after Israeli strikes on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut, with commanders requesting authorization from Mojtaba Khamenei’s office to launch missile attacks on Israel, two sources close to Iran’s military forces told Iran International.

In recent hours, senior IRGC commanders have sent a formal request to the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei seeking authorization to launch missile attacks on Israel, the two sources said.

Neither Khamenei nor his office has responded to the request, and it remains unclear whether the attack will be approved, the sources added.

The alert follows an earlier warning by Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, that northern Israel would be targeted by missile attacks if Beirut came under attack.

Following the IRGC’s evacuation warning, Israel temporarily refrained from a broad attack on Beirut after mediation and direct pressure from US President Donald Trump, and tensions subsided for a time. But Sunday’s Israeli fighter jet attacks on Dahiyeh have once again sharply raised the possibility of direct conflict.

Earlier, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for parliament’s National Security Committee, has also threatened Israel and declared that “tonight, one must await a response in the sky over the occupied territories.”

The sources said Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are concerned that staying silent over Israel’s attacks on Dahiyeh would encourage Israel to intensify its attacks on Hezbollah.

Military commanders also believe that failing to act on declared red lines would severely weaken morale among Hezbollah’s shaken rank and file and endanger the Islamic Republic’s standing among its allied groups.

At the same time, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of parliament, has also threatened that Iran will target US bases and interests in the region in response to these attacks.

In contrast, Masoud Pezeshkian’s government, expressing serious concern about these movements, has warned that any hasty action by the IRGC will give Israel the necessary pretext for a heavy retaliation and drag the country into another full-scale and devastating war.

According to information received by Iran International, Pezeshkian’s administration believes Iran is not currently in a position to enter a new conflict, and that a wider war would halt sensitive ongoing negotiations with the US and make the economic and military situation extremely difficult to control.

Bond Traders Bet on a CPI Surge That Bolsters Case for Fed Pivot

Bond traders are wagering that inflation figures this week will show the biggest surge in consumer prices in several years, adding to pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.

Unexpectedly robust US jobs data jolted yields higher on Friday and bolstered bets that the Fed’s next move will be a hike by December. Ten-year yields surged to 4.55%, a two-week high. The rate on the two-year, which is especially sensitive to Fed expectations, touched 4.18%, the highest since February 2025.

Former Musk Adviser Sriram Krishnan Leaving White House AI Role

by Tom Gantert via The Epoch Times,

Senior White House policy adviser on artificial intelligence Sriram Krishnan, a former Twitter executive who advised Elon Musk during his acquisition of the social media platform, announced Saturday he will leave his role at the end of June.

In a social media post, Krishnan described serving the American people as "the privilege of a lifetime" and thanked President Donald Trump for the opportunity.

"Without his leadership, we would not be leading in the AI race," Krishnan wrote.

Krishnan also thanked David Sacks, saying he had worked most closely with him over the past 18 months and praising his advocacy for American leadership in artificial intelligence.

Among the accomplishments Krishnan said he was most proud of were helping architect and publish the American AI Action Plan, advancing AI acceleration partnerships, helping develop the National AI Policy Framework for AI executive order, and advocating for the American AI technology sector with allies around the world.

Looking ahead, Krishnan said the United States and its allies face challenges involving energy, data centers, and expanding access to artificial intelligence technologies.

"I plan on building institutions that help tackle some of those challenges for America and its allies," he wrote.

Krishnan also thanked numerous administration officials and others for their support, including Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Elon Musk, and others.

Krishnan leaves as opposition to AI data centers has grown rapidly across the country as projects expand into communities.

According to Data Center Watch, an estimated $152 billion in potential data center investment was blocked or delayed in 2025. Hundreds of activist groups in 42 states organized to oppose new projects or expansions. Critics cite concerns over water consumption, electricity demand, noise, and the lack of long-term studies on health and environmental impacts. There are more than 3,100 data centers in the United States, according to the Data Center Map. There are another 1,800 data centers in some state of development.

Trump announced Krishnan was joining the White House as an adviser in December 2024.

"Sriram Krishnan will serve as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy," the president said at that time. "Working closely with David Sacks, Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in A.I., and help shape and coordinate A.I. policy across Government, including working with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Sriram started his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure."

First human trial backs AI-designed 'universal' vaccine

An AI-designed vaccine against all variants of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 – designed using an AI-powered platform developed at University of Cambridge spinout DIOSynVax – has shown promising results in its first clinical trial.

The researchers behind the project say it is the first time that a vaccine entirely designed using AI and computer simulations has been tested in humans.

The pEVAC-PS DNA plasmid-based, needle-free vaccine was developed using all the available genetic sequence data logged by surveillance programmes around the world relating to Sarbeco coronaviruses, which includes the COVID-19 virus, with the AI used to design a "super-antigen" containing features common to the whole group.

Testing in 39 human volunteers has shown not only that the vaccine is safe, but also that it triggered immune responses to SARS-CoV-2, the SARS virus (SARS-CoV-1) that emerged in the early 2000s, as well as Sarbeco viruses in bats that scientists fear could cross the species barrier and cause a future pandemic.

The results suggest that a similar super-antigen approach could be used to develop vaccines against other virus families, including Ebola, which is causing a worrying outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda involving a species not covered by the current, WHO-recommended vaccine.

"Viruses like influenza, coronaviruses, and the Ebola group are evolving continuously, and by the time vaccines are rolled out, they may be poorly matched – the current 'reactive' vaccine system struggles to keep pace," said lead trial investigator Prof Saul Faust, director of the NIHR unit in Southampton.

"If we can develop and clinically advance this new class of vaccines before a virus outbreak begins, millions of lives could be saved, lockdowns avoided, and the economy preserved."

The trial was conducted at UK National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) facilities at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge and the University of Southampton, and demonstrated immunogenicity that was "modest but variable," which may reflect the varied exposure to COVID-19 vaccines among the subjects.

The authors – who have published their work in the Journal of Infection – said that while pEVAC-PS hasn't shown "broad or robust neutralising activity," the evidence of cross-reactive binding to antigens on sarbecoviruses supports the design concept, and the potential to develop next-generation shots with greater efficacy.

"We've converted vaccine development from being reactive to being future proof," said research lead Prof Jonathan Heeney of Cambridge's Lab of Viral Zoonotics. "Our vaccines will continue to provide protection against viruses even as they mutate into new strains."

A larger phase 2 trial is now planned to assess the vaccine's ability to induce immune responses in a wider and more diverse population, and confirm that it generates strong, broadly protective immune responses.

Founded in 2017, DIOSynVax's pipeline includes vaccine candidates for seasonal and pandemic influenza, haemorrhagic fever viruses, and coronaviruses.
