The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Friday that Hamas is continuously preventing people from leaving Gaza City and other zones with active fighting to head to the humanitarian zone in the southern Gaza Strip.
The military also accused the militant group of using civilians, including children, as human shields, claiming that earlier in the day, 20 Hamas operatives attempted to carry out a raid against civilians in the humanitarian zone in the area of Khan Younis. The IDF further said that the operatives were later eliminated in drone strikes, without any harm to the civilian population.
According to the military's latest estimate, approximately 870,000 people left Gaza City, out of roughly one million who were living there before Israel began its offensive to occupy Gaza's major city.
