Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed on Saturday that there will be no elections in the territories currently occupied by Russia.
"Elections cannot be held in territories not controlled by Ukraine, temporarily occupied. Because it is clear how they will be held, as Russia always does. It first talks about the result, even of its own internal elections, and only then counts the votes," Zelensky said at a joint press briefing with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro in Kiev.
The Ukrainian leader also noted that holding elections in the country will only be possible once the security of the people is guaranteed. He added that the issue of how to hold elections in Ukraine is not Russian President Vladimir Putin's concern, after the Russian head of state addressed the matter during his annual conference.
