US: Israel, Lebanon to extend ceasefire by 45 days

 The US Department of State announced on Friday that Israel and Lebanon decided to extend the current ceasefire by 45 days "to enable further progress."

The department's spokesperson Tommy Pigott shared on his X account that Washington will reconvene the peace negotiations on June 2-3 and added that a security track will be established at the Pentagon on May 29 with military representatives from both parties.

"We hope these discussions will advance lasting peace between the two countries, full recognition of each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and establishing genuine security along their shared border," he concluded.
