The United States and China agreed that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon, a White House official told the press on Thursday. Their comments were later officially issued as a press release.
Speaking to the media amid US President Donald Trump's visit to Beijing and meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the official said that both countries agreed that the Strait of Hormuz "must remain open to support the free flow of energy." They also stressed that Xi noted China's opposition to "the militarization of the Strait and any effort to charge a toll for its use." The official added that Xi said China was interested in buying more oil from the US to ease its "dependence on the Strait in the future."
The two leaders also discussed the potential strengthening of their countries' economic and trade relations, including boosting businesses and investments.
