Netanyahu to meet security cabinet over Lebanon deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to attend a security cabinet meeting in Tel Aviv today at 5 pm (local time) to discuss developments surrounding a proposed ceasefire arrangement with Lebanon, The Times of Israel reported on Thursday.

The meeting comes after the United States announced late Wednesday that Israel and Lebanon had reached an understanding on implementing a truce following a fourth round of US-mediated talks in Washington. Under the framework, the ceasefire would depend on a complete halt to Hezbollah attacks and the withdrawal of the group's fighters from areas south of the Litani River.

Netanyahu has not publicly commented on the proposal, although he has already received criticism. Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem rejected the negotiations, while Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said the ceasefire would take effect once all parties grant approval.
