Iran and Oman had made progress in talks on setting up mechanisms to manage safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, announced the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei on Sunday.
"The two sides exchanged views on common principles and operational mechanisms for managing the safe passage of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz while respecting the sovereign rights of the two coastal states," Baghaei said. "The talks were useful and progress was made," he noted, adding that the Omani delegation left Tehran on Saturday afternoon but that "technical and political consultations between the two sides will continue."
