The world's largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance said on Thursday that it was investigating reports of a potential hacking attack. Binance's founder, Changpeng Zhao, also said that it "does look like a hack" in an X post.
"Our teams are aware of reports of a potential security issue and are actively investigating. At this stage, we have not confirmed any impact to user funds. Our security teams are reviewing all relevant information with urgency," Binance said after cryptocurrency wallets linked to the exchange recorded an estimated $2.77 billion in outgoing transfers across five blockchains, raising concerns about a possible security breach.
Roughly at the same time, blockchain-enabled platform Tether also blacklisted an Ethereum wallet holding roughly 971 million USDT, restricting movement of stablecoins at an address that received funds from a wallet Etherscan labeled "Binance 14."
